Event Report

The 56th Santa Barbara Earth Day festival returned as a two-day event at Alameda Park. The festival included community educational booths, craft and vendor sales, all with an environmental theme. Over 21,00 community members and visitors took advantage of this opportunity to celebrate and interact with like-minded folks. The food court included climate-friendly local farm-to-table specialties, including ice cream. The beer garden and live music stage also had high visitation on both days.

Running through the middle of the venue, Santa Barbara Street was again turned into a green car show, with Auto Dealers, a Ride & Drive, several municipal vehicles, electric equipment, bicycles, and the ever-popular owner’s corner. This EV showcase featured 10 different vehicles each day, along with their drivers, to offer personal insights into how driving, owning, and living with an electric vehicle have changed their lives. Several of these drivers have been driving electric vehicles for over 10 years and have experienced and overcome the EV concerns of event participants.

Our education booth provided information on vehicle options, purchase incentives, charging options, and where to get signed up for the test drives.

Event Description

Earth Day in Santa Barbara is a two-day event that draws over 25,000 participants to celebrate the Earth and learn how personal and community changes are possible and can benefit everyone. Climate change is an ongoing crisis affecting communities worldwide. We must work together to mitigate the impact of today and provide for the future.
This is one of the longest-running Earth Day celebrations and highlights climate issues, both local and global, and the companies and organizations that put sustainability front and center.
Event participants will hear from speakers about options, interact with sustainable vendors, and visit educational booths from local government programs and NGOs.
One major draw of the event is the Green Car Show, which features several elements, including ride-and-drive opportunities in electric vehicles and static displays of various makes, models, and types of electric cars, trucks, and equipment.
Also included is the Owners' Corner, where local EV owners showcase their personal electric vehicles and discuss how owning, operating, and enjoying their EVs have changed their lives for the better. Each day, we have room for eight vehicles in the Owners' Corner.
**At this time, all the spaces have been spoken for. If you want, you can sign up for the standby list to fill any spots that might open up. You are also welcome to volunteer without a vehicle and help staff our educational booths.**
Locally, EV adoption is continuing to grow. In the tri-counties, there are over 70,000 registered zero-emission vehicles, and the number continues to grow each day. Regardless of what some elected officials say, buying or leasing an electric vehicle will lower operating costs, improve air quality, and help mitigate climate change.
