Event Report
The Redwood City DEED event was a great success. Our Silicon Valley and San Jose EAA chapters combined efforts to host an EV display in conjunction with Redwood City's STEAM Fest. (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). We were one of many booths with our info table and literature racks, EAA and DEED banners.
Many of the attendees were young STEAM students from local elementary schools with their teachers and and a few parents. We brought some solar powered toy cars and the kids had fun seeing the cars move in the sunny spots and stop in the shade. It was a nice learning lesson for them about solar energy and electric cars. We also gave away small toy cars (not motorized) for the kids and tomato plants for the parents.
Our EV display consisted of a vintage 2002 RAV 4 EV, a Volkswagen Golf that was converted from a gasoline car to an Electric car by our San Jose EAA Secretary George Stuckert and a Cobra race car that was built as an EV from a Factory 5 kit and has been raced at Laguna Seca raceway near Monterey, CA clocking faster lap times than many Teslas.
We had a nice location near the wide sidewalk and had a lot of visitors to our booth. Our EVs were parked next to our booth. The EVs were a static display, however local car dealers provided test drives in a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid mini van, a Chevy Bolt EV, A Tesla Model 3, a Tesla Model S and a Nissan Leaf. This was our first time at this event.
Thanks to Plug in America for providing the literature and posters as well as sending the Tesla drivers to join our EAA team.
