Event Report

Drive Electric Earth Day event planned by the Appalachian Highlands Chapter of Drive Electric TN (DET) with support from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (Office of External Affairs, Tri-Cities), BrightRidge, TVA and Bristol Tennessee Essential Services. THIS WAS THE FIRST EVENT OF THIS CHAPTER AND IT WENT GREAT!! We had a large number of PEVs turn out (23) including an Audi A3 PHEV, a Mercedes-Benz B250e, two Ford Mustang Mach-Es, many Teslas (all four models), Leafs, Bolts and one each BMW i3 REx, Toyota Highlander PEV, and others. The event ran from 10am until 3pm. We worked with the ownership of "The Pinnacle" shopping and eating complex in Bristol, TN and utilized a large parking lot next to Best Buy. The weather threatened rain but it rained very little over about an hour. All state and DEED COVID protocols where followed. Event included registration/COVID check-in station where checked attendees had their hand stamps (and masks were required); in-person introductions to all of the electric vehicles; test rides and drives; and promotion of PEVs, charging systems and funding, statewide planning to drive EV adoption (DET), The Appalachian Highland Chapter, and other Ride & Drive events. Although we did a great job promoting including much time preparing a press release that about 4 partner entities pushed (including TVA), our numbers weren't what we had hoped for. HOWEVER, many of these people had not met one another before so another outcome from the event was being able to develop many relationships to help build out the chapter's EV owner population.

Our setup next to Best Buy with 19 vehicles showing, including a plug-in hybrid bucket truck. Four of the vehicles came from businesses that own EVs or dealerships while the rest of the vehicles were all brought by individual EV owners.

Event Description

The Appalachian Highlands Chapter of Drive Electric TN (DET) will host an EV Showcase and Ride & Drive on Saturday, April 17, 2021. A variety of EVs will be on display and - as permits - we will be offering free drives and rides in EVs! Come join us to experience all the benefits that electric vehicles have to offer and hear from current owners from across the region what owning and driving one is like!!
We invite any regional EV owners to please register to join us and then let us know you're coming by emailing [email protected] with your name and vehicle information - we want you there with us and to meet you and your EV!

Within The Pinnacle outdoor shopping complex, our area will be in the parking lot in front of Best Buy, which is about 2/3s of the way through the complex on the right.

At this event, you will also be able to learn about how we are developing the Appalachian Highlands team which covers the entire northeastern part of Tennessee and seeks to include people and communities from adjoining states! Our mission is to "promote EV understanding and benefits throughout the Appalachian Highlands area.”

During the event you will also be able to learn about DET and all the activities going on across our beautiful state to advance the adoption and use of EVs in Tennessee! To learn more about Drive Electric TN, visit the DET website at www.DriveElectricTN.org.
