Event Report
The April 21, 2021 Drive Electric Earth Day virtual event “How to Drive on Sunshine” with Julie Jones, Solar Energy Solutions and Gary Heaton, Drive Electric Cincinnati explored the synergy between home solar and owning an EV.
Why Drive Electric? Can you power your electric car with solar? How much electricity will your EV use? During a power outage, can your electric car provide backup power to your house? We answered all these questions and provided a brief introduction to solar, including sizing and costing a residential system. We covered the latest automaker announcements for future support of Vehicle to Home (V2H) and Vehicle to Load (V2L).

Event Description
Driving on sunshine—does the idea appeal to you? We can help you make it happen.
We will review the basics of solar-powering your home and show how to calculate how much additional energy you’d need to power an electric car. Learn about incentives that reduce the cost for installing solar and for EV charging. An attractive opportunity for Cincinnati-area residents is the “Solarize Cincy” project, where you can join with other area residents through June 30 to “go solar” at a group rate. We’ll also discuss the pros and cons of several options for providing emissions-free backup power for your home. Bring your EV or solar questions!
