Event Report

Speakers:  Harold Hedelman & Phil Friess of Citizens' Climate Lobby
They gave an excellent presentation of a carbon pricing system that would pay every tax paying US citizen the funds collected from fees paid
by those companies and entities that generate the carbon emissions.  Several members of the US Congress are in favor of this proposed
legislation.   The presentation gave detailed explanations of how this could be implemented using the US Treasury to distribute the funds.
The idea is that this system would reduce carbon emissions by creating an incentive to pay lower fees while providing payments to the victims
of those emissions.  Since the legislation is stalled, the Citizens' Climate Lobby is working to get this plan adopted by a grass roots effort.

Event Description

The presenters believe carbon pricing, preferably through implementation of the Carbon Fee & Dividend policy, would be the best foundation for a comprehensive program to effectively address climate change.  They believe that solving the climate crisis requires both pricing carbon dioxide emissions and drawing them down from the atmosphere in order to return our planet to a healthy climate.  They believe in having carbon dioxide emission legislation influenced by grass roots citizen efforts to counteract the lobbying efforts of corporations and special interest groups that want to perpetuate the heavy use of carbon based fuels.

This presentation will explore how a national carbon fee and dividend policy will turbocharge the decarbonization process.
