Event Report

This year we decided to host an event where people were going to already be instead of trying to draw a crowd to our event. We decided to pig back off the popularity of one of Knoxville's largest spring festivals called the Dogwood Arts Festival. We rented out a small concrete sidewalk area of the World's Fair Park that was immediately adjacent to the Dogwood Arts Festival. Due to the limited space we could only accommodate 10-12 vehicles and we could not offer rides & drives from this location. We had decided earlier in the planning phase that Covid was still a question mark so did not intend to do ride & drives anyways.  The highlight of our show was being able to recruit a diverse mix of new EVs which included 3 Mustang Mach-E's, a Kia Niro EV, a Polestar 2, and the star of the show, a maxed out solid black Kia EV6 GT-line. The EV6 was front and center and drew countless people into our event. The Mustang owners were swamped with people all day long. In addition to the vehicles we had 3 electric motorcycles on display and a fourth one decided to join us for a while after hearing about the event that day. We knew the day was going to be successful when we started getting people around the cars before we even officially started and were still trying to setup. From the start on it was a crazy busy day with people being funneled right through our event as they headed to the festival gates. The festival clocked 4,000 people entering in the first hour at 10am. We saw a vast majority of them stop and checkout our EV show and ask questions about owning an EV.  A green way sent afternoon walkers right through our event. There was also several events at the convention center next to our exhibit that had people walking through our event to get to the convention center. We ended up with 13 vehicles on display and 4 electric motorcycles. The event was a smashing success by all metrics and ideas were already be discussed for use of the same location next year. The festivals door count at 5pm was 10,000 people. We definitely interacted with a good percentage of that attendance and was able to pass out information on our upcoming events and ride & drives. From the front back, Kia EV6 GT-line, Mustang Mach-e, Kia Niro EV, Mustang Mach-e, Nissan Leaf, Polestar 2, Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt, Tesla Model X. On the slope we had a Tesla model Y and a Model 3. Out of view on the other side of the bridge was a Mustang Mach-e, Tesla Model 3, Zero motorcyle, and an Energica EVA motorcycle. The festival next to our event saw 10,000 people from 10am-5pm.

Event Description

The Knoxville Electric Vehicle Association (KEVA) and Drive Electric Tennessee (DET) are working to make the 2022 Knoxville Drive Electric Earth Day Celebration an unforgettable event.

Public Attendees

This is the prefect opportunity for the public to come out and check out a wide variety of EVs in one place. This is event offers you the chance to talk directly with electric vehicle (EV) owners about their real world experiences with electric vehicles. Want to know what it's like to take a long road trip in an electric car? Our members have thousands of miles of road trip experiences. Curious about how to find a charger on the road and how long it takes to charge? The answers are here. What about maintenance? There's very little maintenance needed, and owners can tell you why.

You can see and compare a wide range of models of EVs in one place.  Owners will be available to show and discuss their vehicles throughout the day. Expected owner vehicles include the brand new Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E, Tesla Models 3, Y, S, and X, Nissan LEAF, Toyota Prius Prime, Chevrolet Bolts and Volts, several electric motorcycles such as Zero motorcycle, and more.

We will be located in the sidewalk area in front of the World's Fair Amphitheater.

Public parking is available at the 11th street garage as well as the multiple garages located in Downtown Knoxville. Just walk over to the World's Fair Park. Please stop by and check out our EVs as you plan to attend Knoxville's Famous Dogwood Art's Festival that will be right next to us on the performance lawn.

Volunteers that are not displaying vehicles

Even if you can't show your vehicle at this event, please come out and help us talk to the public about driving EVs and sharing your experiences. This is also an opportunity to socialize with other EV drivers.

Volunteers offering to display EVs

This year we decided to host an event where the people will already be. We will be right next door to the Dogwood arts festival which is expected to draw 25,000 people over 3 days. We chose to be right next door by renting out the Amphitheater. Because this is area has limited space, we can only fit 10 vehicles. We will be selecting a diverse grouping of EVs for this show. We will let those who register to participate know that they have been selected to display their vehicle. If you would like to be considered for one of our spots, please click on the participate button and indicate you would like to show your vehicle. We will get in touch with you. This event is rain or shine.

We need those that are selected to arrive before 10am to stage vehicles before we open. To avoid any confusion, here is a map of where we will be staging our 10 vehicles. We will direct people that morning to specific staging locations. Bathrooms are directly across from our event.
