Event Report
The 2022 Montgomery County GreenFest DEED event coordinated by Poolesville Green, Inc. and held at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton MD was a resounding success. A large number of the estimated 5000 GreenFest visitors saw and/or interacted with the EV owning volunteers staffing the DEED. This was the largest crowd Brookside has ever hosted.
Volunteers did a fantastic job setting up, breaking down and EVeducating all day. DEED organizer, Poolesville Green, Inc. is so very thankful for the support of the volunteers, many of whom are members of the Electric Vehicle Assoc of Greater Washington DC and/or the Maryland Tesla Owners Club. Key to our success were EV owners attending without their vehicles who acted as EV ambassadors to help answer questions from the throngs of visitors. Many of the owners and ambassadors wore Poolesville Green NDEW shirts from years past and we provided bright green hats with “Drive EVs, Ask Me” which helped identify the EVeducators. We would also like to thank the Montgomery County GreenFest Planning coalition, made up of staff from various county government departments, Montgomery Parks, Brookside Gardens, WSSC Water, the University of Maryland Extension and local environmental nonprofits, Bethesda Green and One Montgomery Green, along with Poolesville Green for supporting our part of the overall event.
While the venue did not lend itself to a ride & drive or a large number of EVs, we were fortunate to have a display of unique and popular EVs including Chevy Bolt, Ford Mach-E, PHEV Prius Prime, Tesla models, a Pickman Truck and Zero Motorcycle. JD Taylor’s brand-new Rivian R1T was a big hit and was featured in some of the County’s GreenFest social media outreach. The little orange Pickman was an interesting juxtaposition sitting next to the Rivian. Pre-event GreenFest announcements including the Rivian were received by the public with enthusiasm. My Green Montgomery, an outreach arm of the County's Department of Environmental Protection posted this tweet featuring the EV showcase: https://twitter.com/MyGreenMC/status/1517890398668177408?s=20&t=j8JCpTkDBm3vy6PH7ZZv7Q
