Event Report

Earth Day in Taos has traditionally been well-attended, with broad sponsorship for diverse activities. Unfortunately, due to chilly weather, wildfires, heavy smoke, and high winds, the Friday event was cut short and had very few visitors.  The Taos Environmental Film Festival also suffered from extremely low attendance (after the morning school screening).

Friday, 4/22, a total of 8 vehicles were present, representing seven different models, including a VW ID4 that is part of the fleet of Taos Ski Valley.  We estimate about 30 members of the public in addition to 150 students (there for a morning screening of the film festival) stopped by.  We collected names for future rides/drives in May on a less-windy day.

Saturday, 4/23, there were four EVs present at the Family Fun Day at the Taos Land Trust event in Rio Fernando Park. Our table was popular, with about 150 people (often in family groups of four or five) stopping by.  RT distributed little Earth Balls to the kids and held ongoing drawings for ten $20 gift certificates.  Kit Carson Electric Cooperative and their Tesla Model 3 was also participating in this event.

Renewable Taos worked with TrueKids1, a local non-profit organization that trains adolescents how to film and photograph events.  We will share photos and final video clips with PIA when complete.

Renewable Taos, Inc. acknowledges the support of the Taos Community Auditorium, the Taos Environmental Film Festival, Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, the Taos Land Trust, Taos Ski Valley and the Taos News in supporting these two events.  Of course, many thanks to PIA for supporting this event!

Renewable Taos had information tables at both events, both inside and outside, with lots of great literature, some of which was provided by Plug In America via the DEED resource website.  Additional photos and video clips will be provided when TrueKids1 completes the editing.

Despite high winds and nearby wildfires, Renewable Taos and DEED were visible for two days.  The DEED banners were prominently displayed and we thank PIA for supporting our not-for-profit education and advocacy organization.

Event Description

Renewable Taos, Inc., (RT) a non-profit in Taos, New Mexico, is co-host two Drive Electric Earth Day events this year.  First, the Taos Environmental Film Festival is scheduled for 4/22-24 at the Taos Community Auditorium.  RT will participate at the film festival most of the day on Friday, after a morning litter pickup event coordinated by the local governments.  RT is planning to have several EVs in the auditorium parking lot adjacent to the EV charging stations, and an information table in the auditorium lobby.  Various banners will be displayed and handouts will be available.  Door prizes, free food and other enticements will be offered.

On Saturday, RT is participating in Family Fun Day with the Taos Land Trust at Rio Fernando Park.  This event will be scaled back a bit from the Friday event, and will include several EVs and an information table.  At both events, volunteers will be on-site to explain the finer details of driving electric, and there will be opportunities for ride and drive participation, virus permitting.
