Event Report

The event featured privately owned EVs displayed under a solar panel canopy. EV owners, one who drove 100 miles to participate, included people who had recognized long ago the importance of driving electric, as well as individuals who have recently realized that they can no longer drive an ICE vehicle with a good conscience.  A retired chemist in her 80's, faced with the demoralizing prospect of paying a lot of money to keep an aging gas car on the road, purchased the brand new Nissan Leaf which she brought to the event - "I can't drive a gas car".

Attendees included individuals, young and old, who spoke of a moral imperative to kick their dependence on fossil fuel, as well as people who came to compare EVs for appearance, price and performance.  A young mother walked by, glancing at the vehicles tentatively.  When greeted, she declared that her next car would be a hybrid, because she needed to drive to New York City and back.  She was welcomed into the event where she talked with EV owners who dispelled the myth of range anxiety and explained differences between the various EVs.
