Event Report
No speakers as this was to be 1:1 discussion of practical, everyday EV experience. We were able to fly the banner prominently and mention sponsors and the association in conversations. Highlights included graphics showing total cost of ownership of several different EVs. This was surprisingly a crowd favorite as it was at our last event 2 years ago. It seems people focus on 'nice car, must be expensive' rather than 'nice car, it must be low cost to operate'. People seemed to focus more on what is available besides Tesla, a company that is wildly popular in the city and has an undeserved reputation as a 'luxury car'. The BMW, Ford Focus and a late entry Leaf reminded people that alternatives exist that most people can afford. The unusual, and perhaps most popular vehicle was a beautiful 1969 Karmann Ghia converted to electric. The owner claims a 200 mile range and the workmanship of the conversion is fantastic. The Zero motorcycle also got quite a few second looks. Many assumed it was a gas vehicle until talking with the owner.
Event Description
The Lake Hills Neighborhood Association Annual Earth Day Celebration is focused on what we can do to make our planet better for us all. This year better energy use is a leading theme with practical solutions to reduce our carbon footprint - affordably and sustainably. Everything from home heating to electric bikes will be presented, but the focus is on kids. We have books from the King County Library, plantings and more. Adults can see the practical advantages of electric vehicles and talk to real owners about making the change.
