Event Report
Just a quick review of our highly successful D$W Meet and
DEED event yesterday at the Greenfield Public Library. The weather was great
and so was the turnout. Preliminary attendance numbers were 34 D$W members at
the 62nd D$W Meet, with 15 1st timers, 6 DEED attendees
and 18 DEED drivers for a total of 58 attending both events. We had Fox News 6
on site doing an interview with D$W Advisory Team member Joe Mikulecky and
Chuck Quirmbach from WPR and NPR Public Radio was interviewing DEED
participants as well. We had 18 EV’s in the DEED from OEM’s and 11 different
models on hand.
Inside we had a Fuel for Thought quiz on “The Air We
Breathe” and then a great presentation by Molly Collins the Advocacy Director
for the Wisconsin Lung Association/American Lung Association. We followed these
two segments with an extended discussion of the role that transportation,
tailpipe emissions, GHG have on our environment and then how $mart Eco-Driving
can mitigate these negative factors in either an ICE or EV.
We then had a break when Meet attendees and DEED attendees
could mingle, look at EV’s or go on rides. This was followed by a combined 6
panel member EV Owners/$mart Driving Forum at which we discussed EV technology
and when and how $mart Eco-Driving can be a benefit.
The broader theme in this Forum was the definition of an EV.
Since most thought that EV should include HEV, PHEV and BEV technology, it’s
always important in defining what is meant by an EV. The other thought was that
going from an ICE to a BEV may not be the best way to view EV transition. Most
of those who have reservations about going to a full BEV, have fewer if you
talk about HEV and PHEV technology as the middle space. Like going on a diet,
stopping smoking, or beginning to exercise, moderation may be better and easier
to accept. Any EV is far better than an ICE vehicle.
All and all, a great Meet/DEED with people coming here from
Minnesota, Illinois, as well as SE and SC Wisconsin. I want to thank Marie,
Justin, and D$W Advisory Group members, Jerry, Joe D, Debbie, Joe M, Dorothy,
and Richard for making this one of the best D$W events in the last 3 years.

Event Description
Unfortunately, this DEED event is now closed for further vehicle registrations, due to parking lot restraints.
Drive $mart Wisconsin, the nation's largest grassroots fuel-efficient driving group will host a free Drive Electric Earth Day event on Saturday, April 15th from 9:30 to 2:00 at the Greenfield Public Library in Greenfield Wisconsin. All attending will be able to participate in the 62nd D$W Meet which will include fuel-efficient driver's discussions as well as an EV Owners panel.
Attendees will learn all about electric vehicles in an outside display as well as a classroom setting and have a chance to talk to HEV/PHEV/BEV owners as well. Attendees will be able to get hands-on HEV/PHEV/BEV experience as they ride/drive with D$W members in their personal vehicles. In addition, D$W members will share their personal expertise and experiences with EV/PHEV ownership as well as discuss their own personal benefits with the attendees.
Attendees will also learn about D$W Eco-Driving techniques that can extend the driving range from 10-30% as taught through the D$W "Tools for a Lifetime" training program. These same $mart Eco-Driving skills can be used immediately with any gas vehicle, to save on gas and lower tailpipe emissions while becoming a safer driver as well.
Molly Collins, Advocacy Director from the Lung Association of Wisconsin, will give a presentation on the "State of Wisconsin Air 2022", detailing the effects that vehicle emissions and other factors have on the environment and the resulting health issues. We'll have a general discussion on how electric vehicles can mitigate the effects of these health and environmental concerns.
There are still openings for this D$W-hosted DEED event, but slots are filling up quickly. D$W has hosted seven DEED/NDEW events over the years and has appreciated all the support of the EV owners' network and we'll work at promoting all forms of electric vehicles, HEV/PHEV/BEV in the future.
