Event Report

The City of Hendersonville, NC sponsored its first HENDO EARTH FEST (HEF) on Saturday, April 22, 2023, (10:00 am to 3:00 pm) on Main Street and 5th Avenue. Mayor Pro Tem Lyndsey Simpson and council member Jennifer Hensley  officially welcome attendees at 10:30 am from the stage in the 400 Block of Main Street.

The Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB) teamed with Team ECCO, Blue Ridge EV Club, Conserving Carolina, Mountain True, Caregivers of Mother Earth and Earth Caring Ministry of Trinity Presbyterian Church for this City sponsored event.

The Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO had water related exhibits and fun activities for children and adults on the 500 block of Main Street.

On the 400 block of Main Street, the ESB had about 20 exhibits and participatory activities to inform, renew and expand our knowledge to preserve our local environment.

On 5th Avenue from King to Wall Street, the Blue Ridge EV Club (BREVC) displayed 40 electric powered sedans, crossovers, SUV, trucks, electric bicycles and more.
Budget is low because the City of Hendersonville covered expenses with about $2500 and provided in-kind services, didn't charge event permits, etc. My estimate is that the city's total contribution between cash through the Environmental Sustainability Board and services provided by the city and county was more than $5000 for this first event.

Event Description

This is the first Earth Day Festival in Hendersonville, NC sponsored by the Hendersonville Environmental Sustainability Board in association with the Blue Ridge EV Club and Team ECCO.

The event will be broken into three components; The Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO located on the 500 block of Main Street will focus on issues dealing with water and the Sea.

The Hendersonville Environmental Sustainability Board in the 400 block will focus on displays dealing with the environment in and around Hendersonville.
The Blueridge EV Club on Fifth Avenue will focus on electric transportation and systems. 2023 is the year of the EV!   Many tax credits are in place for new EVs and the pool to chose from is getting more diverse.   Experience the thrill of an electric bicycle or scooter.   See other personal fun personal electric transportation vehicles. Learn about solar and the expanded solar tax credit.

* Meet Owners and talk to them about their cars and why they made the switch.  Get answers about costs, range, charging...
* Meet members of the Blue Ridge EV Club and Tesla Owners of Western North Carolina groups and learn how to get involved.

Electric Vehicles are quieter, quicker, longer lasting and less expensive to operate. Now with more competition EV prices are going down and more models are becoming available... come and talk with people who in some cases have been driving EV and hybrids for 10-15 years.
Get information from those who actually know about these vehicles - their owners.
