Event Report
The City of Hendersonville, NC sponsored its first HENDO
EARTH FEST (HEF) on Saturday, April
22, 2023, (10:00 am to 3:00 pm) on Main Street and 5th Avenue. Mayor
Pro Tem Lyndsey Simpson and council member Jennifer Hensley officially welcome
attendees at 10:30 am from the stage in the 400 Block of Main Street.
The Environmental Sustainability
Board (ESB) teamed with Team ECCO, Blue Ridge EV Club, Conserving Carolina,
Mountain True, Caregivers of Mother Earth and Earth Caring Ministry of Trinity
Presbyterian Church for this City sponsored event.
The Aquarium and Shark Lab by
Team ECCO had water related exhibits and fun activities for children and
adults on the 500 block of Main Street.
On the 400 block of Main Street, the
ESB had about 20 exhibits and participatory activities to inform, renew and expand
our knowledge to preserve our local environment.
On 5th Avenue from
King to Wall Street, the Blue Ridge EV Club (BREVC) displayed 40 electric
powered sedans, crossovers, SUV, trucks, electric bicycles and more.
Budget is low because the City of Hendersonville covered expenses with about $2500 and provided in-kind services, didn't charge event permits, etc. My estimate is that the city's total contribution between cash through the Environmental Sustainability Board and services provided by the city and county was more than $5000 for this first event.
