Event Report

This is our 2nd Annual Earth Day event held at Trotwood-Madison High School. Our guest speaker is a Professor at Kent State University, Department of Earth Sciences; Presidential Fellow; Ohio Space Grant Campus Representative. Professor Ortiz's presentation on the effects of pollutants upon the planet was impactful, presented vital points to promote reasons to drive electric, and engaged the sophomore science students in attendance with information coinciding with their classes. A sponsor for this event was TED Renewables which aided in our budget, as well as their commitment to the Trotwood-Madison school district. The Rivian R1T was the most popular EV with its design and speed. Drive Electric Dayton members supporting this event are pleased to bring their EVs to the younger generation and the differences in age proved no detriment to the excitement shared by both groups. An Ohio State group of students working on converting ICE cars to electric brought a 2019 Chevy Blazer to the event. An intriguing discussion for the high school students was had. We were also supported by Sweet P's Homemade Ice Pops - a treat we provided for the students and a real crowd pleaser. For the academic side, (in addition to Professor Ortiz's excellent presentation), the author of the book, Electric Cars for Dummies, Brian Culp, provided 200 e-books to the Trotwood-Madison Science students; as well, four copies of the book were presented to the Science Teachers and the high school's library. A most excellent event!

Event Description

Earth Day event at Trotwood-Madison High School - this is our second event. We believe in providing top presentations to the student body of Trotwood-Madison, a predominately African-American student body.
Professor Joseph Ortiz is an EV expert, and a Professor of Earth Sciences at Kent State University. He will be presenting to 200 students, starting at 9am. After the presentation, students and staff will go to the school parking lot and look at our EV Showcase of various EVs, volunteered by our members of Drive Electric Dayton.
