Event Report
VCREA partnered with the Oxnard Downtowners to host a "mini-EV Display," or "Muestra de Carro Electrico," at Oxnard's Plaza Park Earth Day Farmer's Market. The mini display showcased three affordable EV models, including the Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt, and Chrysler Pacifica, and visitors were encouraged to explore the cars' interiors. The booth was stocked with EV information and brochures, and iPads featuring virtual EV ride and drives. A prize wheel attracted kids and their parents to our booth, increasing our engagement with the public. Some of the most common questions/topics in outreach revolved around vehicle cost, vehicle range, and charging.
To accommodate visitors who spoke English, Spanish, or Mixteco, VCREA provided verbal EV outreach in each of these languages, while outreach materials were available in both English and Spanish. Attendees were invited to sign up for EV purchase assistance through Ecology Action's EV Purchase Guidance Program and were informed about rebate programs that could help finance the purchase of an EV. Visitors were delighted to learn how much funding was available to help them make the switch to an electric vehicle.
We are grateful to the Oxnard Downtowners for hosting the event and to the Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) and County of Ventura staff for their invaluable support staffing this event.
