Event Report

This year, the Santa Barbara Earth Day festival returned as a two day event at Alameda Park. The festival included community educational booths, craft and vendor sales with an environmental theme. The food court include local specialities including ice cream. The beer garden and live music stage also had high visitation.

Running through the middle of the venue, Santa Barbara Street was turned into a green car show, with Auto Dealers, a Ride n Drive, municipal vehicles and the ever popular owners corner. This EV showcase had 10 different vehicles each day along with their drovers to give personal insight  to participants on how driving, owning and living with electric vehicle has changed their life.

Our education booth provided information on vehicle options, purchase incentives, charging options and where to get signed up for the test drives. Our EV Ambassadors were engaged throughout the day with many of the 22,000 who came to the festival.

Additionally there were 6 local bike vendors with booths and bikes. As well the Bike Ride n Drive had 177 participants. To encourage using sustainable transport to come to the event, a bike valet service parked over 300 bikes each day.

Event Description

Electric Vehicle are coming on strong with more options being offered every day in our region. Currently there are over 75 All Electric and 36 Plug-in Hybrids available for purchase, ranging in price after incentives from $16,100 to a few that are over $125,000. These sedans, Crossovers, Vans, SUVs and Trucks have ranges for hybrids of 15 to 80 miles and for all electric vehicles ranges of 100 to 520 miles. There are also many options to purchase a used EV, some of which also have incentives.

There are 18,560 (BEV) Battery Electric Vehicles and 12,885 PHEV (Plug In Hybrid Vehicles) the tri-county region. These numbers continue to grow with dramatic increases over the past year. No longer is it possible to go on a drive and not see numerous examples of clean driving options in use.

Additionally, the old range anxiety issues are being addressed in our region with more and more Electric Vehicle Charging locations coming online. Not counting residential chargers there are now close to 2,000 places to get a charge in tri-counties.

Come to our educational booth to learn about vehicle options, purchase incentives, take a virtual test drive, explore charging locations and get your questions answered by our EV ambassadors. Our members have been driving electric vehicles for many years, have made cross country EV trips and can provide personal insight on how living with an EV has changed their lives.

Our Electric Vehicle Showcase will allow you to see a variety of vehicles and talk to their owners. Owner displayed vehicles will join with municipal operated vehicles and late model offerings from local dealers, some of which will be available for test drives.

Our showcase has been filled by members of your EV community who are excited for the opportunity to share their vehicle and experiences of being an EV owner. If you have an Electric Vehicle and would like to be on the standby list for possible showcase opening, please volunteer to show your car. Even if you are not showing, it will be great for us to have you stop by and share your knowledge. The bottom line is that this show is fantastic and is expected to bring in over 30,000 people, be sure you participate.
