Event Report

TruJamaica brought the flavor, two local dealerships brought the sexy new hotness, and the weather was perfect!

The Heart of Texas Electric Vehicle Association was thrilled to be a part of the City of Waco Youth Council and Office of Sustainability & Resiliency's  first-ever Care for Waco Earth Day Carnival at the newly-renovated Doris Miller Community Center. City Staff proudly displayed the newest edition to the fleet, a 2022 Ford Mustang MachE driven by the Inspections department. Pablo from Mercedes of Waco brought the stunning new Mercedes EQB, and Chance and Casey with Douglass Subaru in Waco brought a gorgeous pair of the stylish and sleek 2023 Subaru Solterra.
Kids of all ages (and grown-ups of course) participated in many Earth Day activities including kite flying, face painting, fingerpainting, and learned about composting, gardening, water concerns, air quality, clean energy, recycling and electric vehicles. The grown-ups had a lot of really great questions about EVs and living the plug life, over a dozen really lengthy interactions. "Oh wow, I didn't know electric cars could do that!" was a common reaction when they noticed the cord running from the 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV's custom trailer hitch to the laptop on the table... a small taste of v2x technology. We enjoyed asking the kids trivia questions about electric vehicles... some of the answers were amusing, others were awesome. The kids were also given the opportunity to tell the grown-ups where they thought EV charging stations should be by writing the locations down on a post-it and sticking it on a map. (Grocery stores, libraries, parks, and community centers were among the favorites.)
Everyone was fed by the amazing authentic flavors of TruJamaica, a neighborhood favorite. If you're ever in Waco, look them up. That Jerk Chicken is so .... yum!

Special "Thank you!" to Eric Coffman, Susan Krause, Mark Keely, Lindsay Graf, Ashley Millerd, and everyone from the City and the Waco Youth Council for all the hard work and attention to detail that made this day amazing.

Pablo, Chance, Casey.... "Thank you!" is inadequate, you guys are so awesome! Super-special thanks to y'all and Douglass Subaru and Mercedes of Waco for showing the public something they didn't know existed.
