Event Report
This was really two events.First was our tabling at the Eugene Saturday Market. We got help from DEED with literature primarily and from EVA which rushed a feather flag, table cover and other items as well as its own literature. I think we recruited several new EVA members. The table was not in a good location for the foot traffic and the morning was slow, but foot traffic was very high in the afternoon and we were able to contact many passers by. We were also able to interest several people in future test drives of the Forth Mobility leaf short term rental car now posted in Eugene. We were able to get a parking space in a very crowded area near our table.
Second was the gathering and march sponsored by 350 Eugene and several local forest protection organizations. We provided five EVs for the short parade following the rally, mostly from sign-ups for the table which we were able to divert to the parade. With forest protection signs and Drive Electric signs on our cars, our participation was very well received. We made the point, of course, that part of protecting our Oregon forests is eliminating GHGs from transportation fuels. Lots of fun and lots of community connection. There were short pieces on the local TV news about the events and our participation. We are getting direct EV news pieces at the request of TV news organizations every couple of weeks now, partly because of our participation in wider community events.
Event Description
We have reserved table space and EV display parking at the weekly Saturday Market. The Market is across the street from the Eugene Farmer’s Market that meets at the same time. Artisans have worked all winter making imaginative products for sale during the Spring and Summer. Across the street local farmers sell their fresh meat, produce, bakery goods, foraged mushrooms. Locals who come every week can find lunch, great hand-made products, and eat very well for the next week. On Saturday, April 22, EVEVA (EVEVA.org) has reserved a table and parking for EV display and maybe Ride and Drive. Several of our volunteers will work in shifts to promote EV adoption among attendees. We expect 500-1000 visitors to the two markets happening at the same time. This will be a great place to talk to passers by, show off our EVs and get visitors thinking about and deciding to Drive Electric.
