Event Report

Drive Electric Earth Day Winter Haven & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 4/10/23

The City of Winter Haven celebrated Earth Day on April 10, 2023, with an EV show and ribbon cutting ceremony unveiling their new public EV charging stations.  The event was held in the Parking Piazza across from the Chamber of Commerce, and was attended by city officials and dozens of residents eager to learn more about electric transportation.

Winter Haven Mayor Bradley Dantzler’s dedication speech highlighted the city’s many green initiatives, as City Commissioners Nat Birdsong, Tracy Mercer, JP Powell, and Brian Yates showed their strong support.

Mayor Dantzler and Commissioner Brian Yates proudly christened the city's new charging stations by plugging in their own electric vehicles. During the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, the City presented Winter Haven’s Earth Day Proclamation to long-time EV advocate & author, Winter Haven resident Al Lococo.

A wide variety of Electric Vehicles & Plug-in Hybrids were on display by their owners who answered visitors’ questions and shared their EV enthusiasm.  EV models included Tesla 3, Tesla S, Chevy Bolt EUV, & Nissan LEAF.  Plug-in Hybrids included Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe, Ford C-Max Energi, and Prius Prime.

Visitors also enjoyed educational displays on the many health & economic benefits of electric transportation.

The City of Winter Haven planned & sponsored this inaugural DEED event, with volunteers from Polk EV Outreach Team, Polk LWV, and Ancient Islands Sierra Club.

We applaud the City of Winter Haven for their continued commitment to sustainability, clean energy, and eco-friendly transportation options for its residents.  Thank you also to the dedicated volunteers and EV owners who made this event a success.
