Event Report

Lakeland celebrated Earth Day on Sat 4/27/24 with the City’s annual DEEM event, ”Drive Electric Earth Day Lakeland”.  This year, an array of eco-friendly exhibitors in the park added to the Earth Day Theme.

This free, family-friendly outdoor event was held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in downtown Lakeland’s beautiful Munn Park, adjacent to the Lakeland Farmers Curb Market.  The event featured 18 local EV owners showcasing their vehicles, answering visitor’s questions, & sharing their EV-enthusiasm. The Lakeland Farmers Market's wonderful weekly fresh produce, delicious food, & crafts booths added to the festivities, and provided a steady stream of visitors.

Eighteen electric vehicles representing 13 different models were on display, including: Rivian R1T pickup; Ford F150 Lightning pickup; Fiat 500e; Fisker Ocean; Mustang Mach-E; Hyundai Ioniq 5; Kia EV6; Chevy Bolt; Nissan LEAF; Tesla Model 3; Tesla Model Y; and VW ID4. 

Visitors enjoyed learning about EVs at our DEED welcome canopies, which featured EV educational displays, free prize drawings, an “EV-IQ” quiz, and children’s EV craft activities. Drawing prizes included: Gardening Basket of plants, seeds, garden books & plant stand donated by PCEA; Plants & $20 gift card from “The Nectary” native plant nursery; a $25 gift card for Ford’s Garage restaurant from LWV Polk; and a programmable thermostat donated by our event sponsor, Lakeland Electric.

Drive Electric Earth Day Lakeland was organized with the help of volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Polk County, the Polk Democratic Environmental Caucus, Polk Clean Energy Alliance (PCEA) and Ancient Islands Sierra Club’s Clean Energy Committee.

The organizers look forward to hosting National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) events in September 2024, as well as our fourth annual Drive Electric Earth Day event in April 2025.

and the Lakeland Farmers Curb Market's fabulous fresh produce, food, & crafts.
