Event Report

Our Silicon Valley Electric Vehicle Association (EAASV) Chapter's display was part of a much larger Earth Day Event held by the City of Cupertino on 4-20-2024.

This family oriented event typically draws about 5,000 visitors.  At our booth and information table we had toy car giveaways for the kids and for the adults we handed out lots of the Plugin America literature.

The most popular handout was the one that shows which EVs and PHEVs are currently available with photos of each along with pricing and range information.

We also answered a lot of questions the guests had about charging stations and electric vehicle availability.  The City of Cupertino had just installed two BEAM solar charging stations and we used one of those to charge one of our EVs charging during the event.  The other charging station was reserved for the city's EV Shuttle Van.

Several food trucks were on hand, so the visitors stayed for a long time visiting the various exhibitors.  For insurance reasons, there were no test drives.

All of the display vehicles were privately owned and their owners had good engagement with the guests.  We were pleased with the turnout and consider the event to be a big success.  One of our members supplied a trailer with solar panels, batteries and an inverter that was used to power the sound stage used by performers during the event.

The EV display vehicles included a Tesla Cyber Truck, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona, Kia EV 6, my 2002 RAV 4 EV, and a 1953 Studebaker Champion Hot Rod EV conversion with Lithium batteries.

I was interviewed by Elaine Lu of Cupertino TV Productions (CTVP) to be aired at a later date on the cable TV station KMVT15 in Mt View.

Subsequently, I was also interviewed by a reporter from CBS station KPIX TV in San Francisco regarding Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement that California is leading the effort to install more EV charging stations and that Tesla is opening their charging network to non-Tesla EVs.  The reporter used some of my footage from the Cupertino Earth Day event as part of the segment that aired on 4-28-24.

Here is a link to that interview where I played a major role.

Event Description

Welcome and thanks for considering this family friendly Earth Day event.

You can register for this event as an attendee or volunteer.

Very few display EVs will be allowed due to space restrictions.

Dozens of other environmental groups will participate in this event.

Due to limited space we can only allow 2 or 3 more EVs for display since we already have at least 3 EVs confirmed.

Please contact me in advance by phone or text to discuss bringing an EV for display.

Event parking is limited - carpooling  recommended.

There will be food trucks at the event.

The following information was provided by the organizer when I registered.
