Event Report
In celebration of Earth Month, Drive Electric collaborated with Farmingdale State College to host the annual EV Symposium and Ride and Drive at Farmingdale State College on April 25. The free event ran from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. First off was the EV Symposium, which ran from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., where attendees heard from experienced and expert speakers about electric vehicles and EV charging. After the symposium, the speakers milled about engaging the attendees on a one-in-one basis in case to answer any questions, comments, or concerns. About 150 people attended the Symposium.
From there, the main draw of the event kicked off at 11:30 a.m. with the EV Ride and Drive, which allowed attendees to get behind the wheel of 10 different EVs spanning multiple well-known makes and models, supplied by a number of local dealerships including BMW of Freeport, King O'Rourke Cadillac GMC, Empire Ford of Huntington and Empire Chevy of Huntington. Vehicles included the BMW i4 and iX, the Chevy Equinox, Blazer and Silverado, the Ford 150 Lightning, the Cadillac Lyriq and Optiq, and the GMC Sierra 1500 and Hummer SUV. A total of 100 participants in the Ride and Drive took 166 test drives. In addition to the vehicles available for test drive, we had a static display "Show and Tell" area where about 20 EV owners displayed their vehicles. Tesla also displayed their Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in this area.
Both breakfast and lunch were made available to attendees
on the day of the event.
This was a great opportunity for people to come and learn about EVs in the morning session, and then at 11:30 they could either talk to some of the speakers in breakout sessions while they ate some lunch, or went outside to do test drives. In addition, there were be a number of vendor tables from industry and environmental groups that attendees could also visit. We were fortunate to have great weather which added to the festivities.
