Future EVs: Sustainable Driving AND Energy Storage
Ashland, OR
Apr 25 2025
Day: | Friday, April 25, 2025 |
Time: | 3:00 - 7:00 pm PDT |
Location: | Science Works Museum 1500 East Main Street Ashland, OR 97520 |
Our DEEM event will showcase the future of EVs with a demonstration of how an electric vehicle can be charged using sustainable solar energy and store this energy in its high-voltage battery for use outside the vehicle. ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum (founded in 2002 as a private response to the crisis in public science education) hosts an annual Earth Day event open to all community organizations in Ashland, Oregon. This year the event will take place on April 25th from 3:30 to 7 PM on the ScienceWorks grounds and parking area adjacent to Southern Oregon University. (https://www.scienceworksmuseum.org/earth-day)
· The centerpiece of our DEEM event will be a real-time presentation of one of the latest EVs from General Motors: the Chevy Silverado pickup. The Silverado not only has an impressive range of over 360-miles but can also be used to power an average home for up to 21 days using only the truck as the power source.
· The Southern Oregon/Siskiyou Hybrid-Electric Vehicle Association (SOHEVA) will provide knowledgeable volunteers for the entire event to answer questions about EV/Hybrid ownership as well as questions about EV technology in general. We will maintain an information booth as well as facilitate questions generated by the public about on-site display EVs. SOHEVA volunteers will provide several of their own personal EVs for public viewing. (soheva.net)
· FORTH, an Oregon
organization founded with funding from the local utility Pacific Power, will bring
their Mobile EV Showcase dedicated to educate and motivate communities
throughout the Pacific Northwest about EVs. The EV Mobile Showcase will be
accompanied by the Rivian all-electric truck used to transport it 330 miles
from Portland. The Showcase features an interactive interior where people can
find out about EV charging, availability, trip planning, rebates and more.

· TC Chevy, an Ashland car dealership, will bring a Silverado EV pickup available for attendees to view and drive. (https://www.tcchevy.com)
· Other local car dealerships will provide additional demo EVs to view/drive.
·
Experts
knowledgeable about using Vehicle to Home (V to H) bi-directional charging will
be available to answer questions about an EV’s ability to provide home backup
electrical power. The event will take place near an Ashland-based “Stracker”
Company’s solar array platform--a cutting-edge,
pole-mounted structure designed to maximize land use by maintaining full access
to the space beneath. Stracker-mounted solar panels follow
the sun like a sunflower and can generate more power per square foot than other
solar installations. (https://stracker.solar)
