Event Report
Predicted severe thunderstorms forced this event indoor for the 2nd of past 3 years. Thankfully, all of the xEV demonstrations were able to move indoors, some who would have had outdoor xEV displays did not come. The xEV displays were jointly staffed by TEVA of NC members, staff from the NC State Univ (NCSU) Clean Energy Technology Center (CETC), and staff from the Forsyth Tech Transportation Tech program.
This is the largest Earth Day fair in the Carolinas and draws upwards of 10,000 attendees in good weather. With the large education building available, it still drew almost 1/4 of the typical good weather attendance. We were very fortunate to have a Chevy Bolt, two Rivians, a Tesla, and a Toyota PHEV along with indoor educational materials for the attendees. Our xEV displays included:
- A fully functional mounted EVSE from the Wake Tech xEV program which was used to allow fairgoers to plug in and charge the NCSU CETC provided Chevy Bolt
- Advertising flyers describing area xEV programs featuring the new Rivian Tech program and others at Forsyth Tech in Winston-Salem, NC
- Demonstrations of full EV, Plugin Hybrid EV, and Light EV Technologies
- Volvo Trucks had a full electric tractor (no trailer) that could haul over 25 tons on display where the public could see the major components and sit in the cab to experience some of what it is like to drive a full size tractor-trailer!
- A Komodo Tank demonstration (the mini Komodo Tank) from the local MAD Maker Center showed their two tread remote controlled tank which delivers a large battery powered system to remote spaces (see album for photo)
