Event Report
Dr. Pingen Chen and other partners at TN Tech hosted the
“Tennessee Tech EV Experience” as part of an Electrify America-sponsored
project in conjunction with the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition and Drive
Electric Tennessee. The event was held as part of the 2025 Drive Electric Earth
Month campaign, and showcased multiple models of EVs available for interested
students, staff and faculty (as well as interested community citizens) to test
drive or ride in. Additional information about charging locations in the
community and across the state, as well as information about ongoing projects
that are advancing EVs in Tennessee were available for all participants.
Additional partners included TVA, who brought a VW ID.Buzz! The event was held next to the DC Fast Charging station on campus, which was used during the event. Vehicles available to ride and/or drive were a Ford F-150 Lightning, a Ford Mustang Mach-e, a VW ID.Buzz, a Hyundai Ioniq 6, a Chevy Bolt EUV, and a Nissan Leaf. 37 rides and drives were given throughout the event, but we had a relatively small turnout for what had been hoped for.
Overall, it was a good event for developing and building
relationships between the partners and individual EV drivers who attended with
their vehicles, but we did not have much traction for students, faculty, or
staff. For the next event, we need to be at a more centralized location on the
campus where we can catch more student traffic, and more promotion should be done for the event.
