Briarcliff Manor Drive Electric Earth Day 2025 Report
A celebration of community, pollinators, sustainability, and electric mobility
Event Overview
What an incredible Earth Day we had in Briarcliff Manor this year! I’m still buzzing with excitement from yesterday’s Drive Electric Earth Day celebration. Our little village came together in a big way to show that going green isn’t just a trend—it’s becoming our way of life.
The event saw an impressive turnout with over 150 community members joining the festivities. The most exciting part? We had more than 10 electric vehicles on display, ranging from sleek sedans to family-friendly SUVs. I mean a Kia EV9 for the moms had the families interested!
The EV Showcase
Walking through our village green, I couldn’t help but feel proud seeing the rainbow of EVs lining the perimeter. Local owners were more than happy to pop their hoods (or should I say, their front trunks?) and share their experiences with curious neighbors.
“I haven’t visited a gas station in over two years,” I overheard one EV owner telling a group of wide-eyed listeners. “And my maintenance costs? Cut in half!”
Community Achievement Celebration
The highlight of the afternoon came when our mayor announced that Briarcliff Manor had reached a remarkable milestone: over 150 residents had signed up to purchase or lease electric vehicles through our community incentive program! This achievement triggered a matching grant that allowed us to purchase the village’s very first electric vehicle for our municipal fleet.
For us it wasn’t just about the money—it was about what it represented: our community’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
This is just the beginning, our Village Manager mentioned to me. We’re aiming for a transition to an electric municipal fleet and definitely charging stations at every village facility. Plus, at the local train station for our resident commuters on Metro North Railroad.
Activities and Education
Beyond the impressive display of vehicles, we had:
Handed out copies of The Green Living Guy by Seth Leitman's
Sustainable Westchester was there for support
Kids coloring pages on Earth Day
Food trucks
Earth Day spin the wheel for prizes
Small solar lights for kids to test as giveaways
Looking Ahead
As I packed up my folding chair at the end of the day, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come. Just three years ago, you could count the number of EVs in our village on one hand. Now, we’re leading the region in electric vehicle adoption.
The energy at yesterday’s event wasn’t just about celebrating Earth Day—it was about celebrating a community that’s driving change, one electric vehicle at a time.
Our next goal? Doubling our current numbers by Earth Day 2026 and breaking ground on the village’s first charging stations in the Village at the Scarborough Train Station. With the momentum we’ve built, I’d say we’re well on our way!
Together, we’re proving that even small villages can make a big impact when we plug into a sustainable future.
