Event Report
Montgomery County GreenFest 2025 celebrated its 10th anniversary, continuing its tradition as the county’s largest environmental festival. Over the years, GreenFest brought together residents, businesses, and policymakers to promote sustainability and climate action. A staple of the event has been the showcase of electric vehicles (EVs), highlighting advancements in clean transportation and encouraging residents to explore eco-friendly alternatives. This year, seven EVs were displayed, including the crowd-favorite new VW Buzz, which generated excitement among attendees. Attendees witnessed a fascinating demonstration of electric vehicles (EVs) powering desktop appliances and power tools. This showcase highlighted the versatility of modern EVs, emphasizing their potential beyond transportation. Visitors saw firsthand how these vehicles could serve as mobile energy sources, providing backup power for essential devices and tools. The festival offered an engaging lineup of activities, educational exhibits, and hands-on demonstrations, all aimed at fostering a greener future for Montgomery County.
The event was made possible through the collaboration of numerous organizing partners, including One Montgomery Green, Bethesda Green, Poolesville Green, various offices within the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, the Latino Health Initiative, MCDOT, Montgomery Parks, Montgomery Planning, Wheaton Economic Development, and WSSCWater. Additionally, PEPCO, Just Ice Tea, Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center, SavaTree, Signorama, and Strathmore stepped up as sponsors, ensuring the festival’s success. At least 1150 attendees engaged with 60 vendors representing the nonprofit, for-profit, and government sectors, offering resources, products, and services that supported sustainability efforts. The event also featured an impressive roster of speakers, including County Executive Marc Elrich, Jon Munger, Director of the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, County Councilmember Natali Fani-González, and Sarah Kogel-Smucker, the county’s Climate Change Officer. With a decade of impact behind it, GreenFest 2025 continued to inspire even greater community engagement and environmental stewardship.
