Event Report

The First Responder EV Awareness workshop in Emerson FD was organized by New Jersey EVA and EZ Ride, local TMA.
Emerson FD Chief Joseph Mara actively helped to recruit more attendees by reaching out to other area Fire Departments.
Retired Firefighter and NJEVA member Michael Hornsby was instructing during the first part of the program. For the second part of the program, we had 12 various electric models on display for the first responders. They used emergency guides to identify various parts, particularly the power disconnect.
Attendance: 82 firefighters from Emerson FD, Bogota RS, Bergenfield FD, Closter FD, River Edge FD, Paramus FD, Demarest FD, Tenafly FD, Cresskill FD, River Vale FD, Oradell FD, Northvale FD, Saddle Brook FD, Hillsdale FD, and Park Ridge FD
Emerson FD provided beverages. NJEVA covered pizza.

Fire Chief Mara was very excited about the outcome.

The program was very successful in terms of attendance, satisfaction, and interest from Firefighters to inspect EVs.
The firehouse was relatively small, so we were packed. Due to freezing temperatures, we had to keep the door closed.

Event Description

New Jersey EVA and EZ Ride are pleased to offer an EV awareness program for first responders in New Jersey State. This program is particularly suitable for firefighters and aims to increase awareness of EV-specific safety procedures for first responders deployed to a scene involving electric vehicle collisions. The program comprises one hour of in-class presentation at 7 PM followed by 1 hr of EV show, which covers hands-on inspections of various plug-in electric vehicles using the First Responder Guide.

We call for EV volunteers to bring their vehicles to show them to the first responders:
- let them find the safety disconnect
- share your positive driving experience
- share your joy of driving electric

By registering at this portal, you are committed to the EV show portion only. If you are interested in attending the entire session, please mention it in the comments and arrive 6:50 PM to sign the paperwork.

Dinner (e.g. pizza and beverages) will be provided to all who bring their EV.

For effective planning, we are asking EV volunteers to register by January 8, 2026. By registering early, we can get food for everyone. And as we get closer to the event, communication will be sent to registered people. You don't want to miss on it.
