Event Report
On Sunday morning, April 19, 2026, eleven participants met at a Supercharger site in south Austin. We chatted for a while about our electric vehicles, made sure everyone signed a waiver, answered questions, paired off into Driver-Navigator vehicles, and assigned each car a unique, cell-phone-based quiz. Then, we headed for our destination 45 minutes away at Hays City Store & Ice House in beautiful Driftwood, Texas. As they drove, each team followed the same directions and answered 38 fun, sometimes silly questions about items they saw out their windows. Questions included, "On right, after the light at Lansing Dr, what is the first name of the cattle gathering and weed killing street?" (the answer was "Roundup") and "On right, what county is on the green sign (rhymes with 'haze')?" (the answer was "Hays" as shown on the "Hays County" sign).
At the restaurant, we sat together at a large, covered picnic table and enjoyed lunch together. As a special treat, each participant was awarded a small, Hot Wheels-sized solar electric car. After our meal, most of us gathered in the parking lot to race the cars on the tonneau cover and tailgate of a Tesla Cyberbeast. The cheap little cars worked great in the sun and were a lot of fun.
After racing, we headed home with plans to participate in the next AustinEV road rally scavenger hunt.
Event Description
Join us for a fun, free, untimed road rally, even if you don’t have an EV or any vehicle.
We will drive from Austin to Driftwood. Along the way, Driver-Navigator teams will look out their windows to answer questions like:
- “What color is the house on the corner of 5th and Main?”
- “What animal is on the mailbox at 123 Main Street?”
The route will take us to a restaurant where we can get lunch and review answers.
Want to participate but don’t have a vehicle? We can match you onto a team.
Got a vehicle but need a Navigator? We can match someone or match you into another vehicle.
