Event Report

This is an annual Earth Day event held at the 2nd Street Market in downtown Dayton. 2nd Street Market is in the center of downtown Dayton, Ohio. Downtown Dayton is surrounded by 21 municipalities of distinct economic and cultural diversity. The 2nd Street Market is visited by patrons that come from as far as Columbus, Ohio, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

The participants at this event were of all races, classes, genders and ages. Of the 1500 attendees, many of them were new to the information displayed by the Electric Vehicle Association of Ohio (EVA-OH). Those who did not Test Drive an EV had the ability to talk with our members, view EVs and ask numerous questions. The EVs utilized came from persons who volunteered the use of their EVs and from Dealers from the community.

Every EVA-OH member who participated at the event are well-versed in electric vehicles. And as attendees either touched, drove or asked questions, they were answered by a diverse group of individuals who own the EVs that were displayed. This is essential because the participants felt no pressure that they were being made a sales pitch and they were simply talking to people who loved EVs.

The main sponsor of our event was EVA-OH. We were supported by the City of Dayton's Sustainability Office and numerous green organizations throughout the City of Dayton and Miami Valley region. Paid advertising of our event was placed with FaceBook. We emailed EVA-OH members, area contacts, and posted promotions on LinkedIn. Staff at 2nd Street Market placed our flyers on their entrance doors and made announcements through the day about our Test Drives. As well, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) sent our handbill to all the social agencies and underserved groups with whom they have an association.

With the rising price of oil it is essential that groups similar to EVA-OH hold events where citizens can learn about the many benefits of driving EVs and how they can aide in eliminating the burden placed upon them(us) by fuel costs.
